Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed Legacy Of The Horses...Spring 1865. I went back and read Because Of The Horses again before starting this one and it was a great journey in time--a period you rarely hear about--border areas of the Civil War and the tremendous impact the War had on their lives. I'm so glad you have written the second book. Your characters seem so real that I found myself just before I went to bed, worrying about whether Ford's wound was infected or not! —L. Lanier

Legacy Of The Horses...Spring 1865 is a fine follow-up to Because Of The Horses. You brought to life a period and location previously unknown to me, filled with difficulties during those days. Reading Legacy Of The Horses...Spring 1865 conjured up all sorts of location images as I read along. I think my mind was drawing upon memories of scenery from the old 1970 Clint Eastwood movie, The Beguiled, and homestead scenes in the later Cold Mountain. The Johnson character was mysterious and edgy and I also liked the characters who were African-American.
To me they were very real. I had to wonder whether it was difficult to decide how to treat their spoken words. —T. Finley
I enjoyed reading Legacy Of The Horses...Spring 1865. It was very enjoyable to revisit the Marsh family and learn about how they and their neighbors fared during the war. It is interesting to be taken back to that time when neighbors, and even family members disagreed on values and how they each coped. The message resonates true today. I thoroughly enjoyed it. —V. Leri
